Distribution Center Manager

Location: Chesapeake, VA

POSITION SUMMARY

Launching in 2025, the Norfolk Distribution Center (DC) will become a critical element of the ASG supply chain serving Core, Boutique, and Ceramic Matrix locations throughout the East Coast and Midwest. The DC will receive and distribute substantially all (85%+) of the imported, stocking inventory for each brand as well as other supporting materials, samples, and equipment that ASG will import from time to time.

The Distribution Center Manager (DCM) is responsible for all aspects of operations at the DC – including personnel, training, shipping, receiving, inventory control, and budget. The DCM must coordinate closely with Supply Chain, Logistics, and Branch Operations teams to maximize inventory efficiency, reduce stockouts, and ensure excellent service to internal ASG customers while tightly managing cost and compliance.

This is not an entry-level position. Candidates must have direct experience in the natural stone, quartz, or related building products industry. Alternatively, candidates must have exceptionally strong leadership and DC management experience in a high-volume, multi-branch environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Personnel & Training

  • Recruit, train, and supervise all warehouse and supporft staff
  • Schedule personnel efficiently to meet operational and safety goals
  • Conduct regular operations and safety meetings
  • Approve timecards and manage overtime expenses for hourly employees
  • Ensure all staff are properly certified for forklift and crane use
  • Coach and develop team members for advancement and retention
  • Ensure internal customer service standards are met or exceeded

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure company safety program and OSHA compliance
  • Oversee overhead crane inspections and maintenance
  • Ensure FMCSA, DOT, and other regulatory compliance for fleet operations
  • Maintain the Company Gold Safety Standard each month

Inventory Management

  • Oversee container receiving, unloading, and quality inspection
  • Ensure slabs are numbered, labeled, and stored properly
  • Supervise accurate bookmatching and labeling of stone/porcelain samples
  • Ensure timely and accurate updates in Stone Profits and related systems
  • Perform regular inventory audits and cycle counts
  • Maintain high-quality photographic records of all incoming slab and tile lots
  • Ensure proper documentation of all material claims and damage.

Logistics & Transfers

  • Coordinate all outbound transfers to branches
  • Maintain primary and alternate 3rd party contacts for all transfer routes, taking care to minimize freight transfer cost
  • Ensure accurate and timely transfer order processing and completion
  • Work with Supply Chain to minimize branch-level stockouts

Facility & Equipment

  • Oversee facility maintenance and equipment inspections (forklifts, clamps, rigging, A-frames, etc.)
  • Ensure RingCentral phone and camera systems are functioning and maintained
  • Lead construction projects or showroom upgrades as needed

Other Duties

  • Liaison with other company DCs and Branch Managers
  • Support strategic initiatives as directed by the Director of Branch Operations or RVP
  • Other duties as assigned

Key Success Factors (KPIs)

  • On-time and damage-free delivery rates =95%
  • Inventory accuracy =99.5% (based on audits and cycle counts)
  • Transfer order fulfillment rate =99%
  • Controllable Demerge and Per Diem Charges < .25% of inventory value
  • Zero reportable safety incidents
  • Meet monthly Gold Safety Standard
  • Employee retention targets achieved

Qualifications

Required Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years managing a distribution center or equivalent high-volume operations
  • 2+ years in a leadership role managing 10+ employees
  • Strong experience with DOT, OSHA, FMCSA compliance
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word); experience with Stone Profits or similar ERP
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the natural stone, quartz, or building products industry
  • Knowledge of specialized material handling (overhead cranes, clamps, etc.)
  • Forklift and OSHA certifications

Work Environment / Physical Demands

  • Must be able to lift 25+ lbs.
  • Regular exposure to indoor and outdoor warehouse conditions (heat, cold, dust, noise)
  • Ability to oversee slab handling using cranes, forklifts, and A-frames
